Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin just won in straight sets at the Wimbledon 2010 tennis championships to advance to Round 3.
Clijsters, who last played at Wimbledon in 2006, beat Karolina Sprem of Croatia 6-3, 6-2 today, while Henin, a semifinalist in Wimbledon 2007, defeated Germany’s Kristina Barrois 6-3, 7-5.
Clijsters and Henin both retired from the sport before making comebacks in 2009 and 2010. Neither has won the title at the All England Club.
Clijsters, the holder of 37 career titles, completed the win in 1 hour, 13 minutes on her third match point. Her best performance at the only grass court Grand Slam was reaching the semifinals in 2003 and 2006.
Henin, a seven-time Grand Slam winner, but never champion at Wimbledon, struggled to close out her match against Barrois after leading 5-2 in the second set.
She lost two successive service games before breaking back in the 11th game, then holding to secure a third-round spot.
